Most “image optimizer” plugins rewrite URLs, push files to a CDN, or need an account before they do anything. I built PixCompress so WordPress sites can compress the media library on the same server, with the same filenames and the same public URLs.
The plugin is listed on the official directory: wordpress.org/plugins/pixcompress. Local compression does not need a license key.
What problem it solves
Heavy JPEG and PNG files are the usual reason a WordPress homepage feels slow. If you rename files or change the upload path, Elementor, themes and old posts break. PixCompress writes a smaller file in place and keeps a private backup so you can restore.
What you get
- JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF on GD or Imagick
- Unchanged URLs and dimensions (resizing is optional)
- Animated GIF / animated WebP skipped
- Original kept if the result is not smaller or not valid
- Dashboard, image library, bulk actions, auto-optimize on upload
How to install
In wp-admin: Plugins → Add New → search PixCompress. Or download the zip from WordPress.org. Open PixCompress Dashboard and click Compress library.
