Shopify is fast to launch. It is also easy to fill with apps until the store is slower than the WordPress site you left. I take Shopify work when the catalogue, theme, and checkout story are clear — not when someone wants “a clone of a huge DTC brand by Friday”.
What I build
- Online Store 2.0 themes with sections the merchant can edit
- Product and collection templates that explain the item, not only the price
- A short app list: reviews, subscriptions, or 3PL — not twenty overlapping tools
- Speed work on images and unused app scripts
What I push back on
Fake scarcity timers, copied product copy, and checkout tricks that fight Shop Pay. They look clever in a mockup and train customers to distrust the brand.
When I recommend WooCommerce instead
If the rest of the company already lives in WordPress, or you need deep custom logic at checkout, a WooCommerce developer (with WordPress skills) is usually cheaper over two years than fighting Shopify’s limits.
I have shipped Shopify catalogues such as watch brands in the portfolio. Brief me with the store URL, deadline, and the pages that must convert. That is enough for a quote — freelance or, for Kolkata companies, a conversation about a full-time hire who can own both WordPress and Shopify.
