Freelance WordPress work goes wrong when the brief is “make it like this famous site” and the deadline is yesterday. A usable first message is short:
- Current URL or “new brand”
- Must-have pages and who edits them
- Integrations (payments, CRM, booking)
- Deadline and a budget range
- Whether this is a one-off project or you are also hiring full-time in Kolkata
I reply with fit, scope, and either a fixed/milestone quote or a clear no. Staging access during the build is standard. You should not be asked for live admin passwords on day one.
Full-time vs freelance
If your company is in Kolkata and the WordPress load is ongoing, hire full-time. Freelance is for a defined project, a rescue, or a period before a headcount opens. I do both, and I will say which one matches the brief.
